Paul Odama, a senior police officer, has warned officers and men of the Force in Oyo State to shun all forms of corruption and indiscipline in discharging their duties.

Mr Odama, the Assistant Inspector-General (AIG) in charge of Zone 11 of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) in Osogbo, gave the warning while speaking during a duty visit on Wednesday in Ibadan.

The AIG, who also met with police stakeholders, said the position of the inspector-general of police on zero tolerance for corruption among officers must be maintained.

“Officers must always maintain professional conduct, be confident, dress well, maintain discipline, take good care of their health and family.

“But they should also always be mindful of the negative impact of unverified social media news on citizens. This is why you should always verify every social media information before taking action.

“Many people are using social media to spread unverified information.

“As law-enforcing officers, we must be careful because this fake news can aggravate situations, cause problems and lead to bloodshed,” he said.

Speaking also, the chairman of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) in Oyo State, Ester Adegbenjo, urged police officers to be more committed to duty.

“You should always follow the AIG’s instructions that you should let your salaries be enough for you,” she said.

Mrs Adegbenjo commended Gov. Seyi Makinde of Oyo State for the provision of patrol vehicles and other support for police to ensure smooth security operations in the state.

In the same vein, the chairman, association of Ibadan traditional chiefs, Asiminyu Ariori, commended the police command for maintaining a peaceful environment in the state through effective community policing.

The Oyo State commissioner of police, Adebola Hamzat, in his welcome address, had said the command had activated a strategic action plan and alignments to ensure safety in the state.

The CP added that the command’s action plan, such as enhancing community policing, robust inter-agencies collaboration, advanced technology-driven policing and capacity-building, has led to strong community engagement in the state.

The stakeholders meeting had in attendance divisional police officers (DPOs), area commanders, PCRC members, traditional leaders, head of security agencies in the state and other critical stakeholders.
