Ondo State governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has commended religious leaders in the state for the harmony that exists among Muslim and Christian faithful.

Mr Aiyedatiwa stated this on Sunday in Akure at the Iftar (breaking of fast) he hosted for Muslim leaders as part of the 30-day Ramadan fast.

He emphasised the importance of Ramadan beyond fasting, saying that it was a period for spiritual reflection and drawing closer to Allah.

He commended the religious leaders for their continuous prayers and support for his administration.

The governor urged them to pray for Nigeria to overcome the current economic challenges and for leaders at all levels to be guided in making decisions that would lead to national growth and development.

On the forthcoming party primaries, Mr Aiyedatiwa appealed for peaceful conduct among political parties and contestants, charging them on the need to prioritise the interest of the state above other interests.

He reiterated that no community or town would be left untouched by the present administration in the state.

Earlier in his address, the Chairman of the Ondo State Muslim Welfare Board, Zikrullah Chandy, emphasised the lessons of unity imparted by Ramadan.

Mr Chandy highlighted fasting as an act of kindness, stressing that fasting fosters empathy by allowing Muslims to experience hunger and understand the plight of the less privileged,

He expressed gratitude to Mr Aiyedatiwa for allowing the board to handle the event with the full support of the government.
