Algerian foreign minister Ahmed Attaf spoke with U.S. secretary of state Antony Blinken on the phone to discuss the situation in the Gaza Strip.

According to the Algerian foreign ministry, the talk came shortly before the UN Security Council adopted a resolution that demands an immediate ceasefire in Gaza for the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

The talk highlighted Algeria’s role as the originator of the draft resolution and its negotiation efforts with other UN Security Council members.

Since January, when Algeria became a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, it has been working to pass a draft resolution requesting a ceasefire in Gaza.

This is the third time in two months that Mr Blinken has called his Algerian counterpart to discuss the development of Gaza.
