Chairman, Northeast Development Commission Board, Gen. Paul Tarfa (retd), has underscored the need for publication of more literature books about topical issues that promote the interest of Nigerians.

Mr Tarfa gave the advice at the public presentation of two books written by Prof. Abdullahi Shehu, on Friday in Abuja.

The books are titled: “Boko Haram and other security challenges in Nigeria: issues and options for policy,” and “Reflections on the 2023 general elections: lessons learned and the future of democracy in Nigeria.”

Mr Tarfa said, “The first book is topical as the insurgency, banditry, kidnapping and other forms of criminality continue to undermine the security of Nigeria, affecting all spheres of human development. This book reviews governments’ efforts at combating insurgency and security; I trust this will be an important reference for government policy on countering terrorism and combating security threats in Nigeria. The second book is an independent, non-partisan account of what happened last year and what could be done differently to strengthen democracy in Nigeria.

“I have no hesitation whatsoever, in commending Shehu and recommending the two books to security agents, law enforcement officers, policy-makers, development partners, the academics and the public in general. They are books that every politician should have in his or her library and imbibe the recommendations contained therein.”

Mr Shehu, a pioneer Director-General of the ECOWAS Inter-governmental Action Group Against Money Laundering in West Africa and former Nigerian Ambassador Nigeria to Russian, expressed appreciation to Nigerians for the encouragement to put the books together.

The event was attended by Vice-President Kashim Shettima, former military Head of State, Yakubu Gowon, former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mariam Mukhtar, and governors among others.
