National chairman of the All Progressive Congress, Abdullahi Adamu, has resigned from the Senate where he had been a member until his emergence as the APC chairman.

In a letter read on the floor of the red chamber by the Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, on Tuesday, Mr Adamu thanked his constituents for the opportunity to serve at the senate.

In the same letter, the APC deputy chairman, Abubakar Kyari, who until his election on Mrach 26, represented Borno North, also tendered his resignation.

The duo both thanked the senate president and their constituents while urging their APC colleagues in the senate to ensure their party wins in the 2023 general elections.

“Mr Senate President, you have shown that all the arms of the government can work together as one national government,” Mr Adamu said.

“I am, with utmost respect and appreciation, informing you that consequent to my victory as National Chairman in the just concluded APC convention, I hereby formally resign as a senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria representing Nasarawa West senatorial district with effect from April 1, 2022,” he said.

Mr Lawan is expected to declare their seats vacant and notify the Independent National Electoral Commission, after which the electoral body is expected to conduct by-elections to fill the seats.
