Army begins annual range classification exercise In Lokoja

The Headquarters 12 Brigade Nigerian Army, Lokoja, on Saturday announced the start of its second annual range classification exercise.
Lt. Hassan Abdullahi, acting assistant director, 12 Brigade Army Public Relations, made the announcement on behalf of the Brigade Commander and Force Commander, Operation Accord III, Brig.-Gen. Kasim Sidi.
He disclosed that the exercise would hold from Aug. 25 to Aug. 28 at the Chari Maigumeri Barracks’ shooting range in Lokoja.
According to him, the exercise aims to sharpen the shooting skills of officers and soldiers, while also assessing the serviceability of weapons.
Mr Abdullahi urged the public, particularly residents of Shettima, Zango, and neighbouring areas, not to panic over gunshots or heavy movement of troops and equipment.
He also advised locals to stay away from the range area for the duration of the exercise.
“The Range Classification Exercise is an essential component of the Nigerian Army’s training, ensuring officers and soldiers maintain high proficiency in their shooting skills,” Mr Abdullahi explained.
He added that the exercise would identify weapon serviceability issues, allowing corrective measures to be taken promptly.
Mr Abdullahi appealed to the media to sensitise the public, including translations into local languages, to ensure communities around the range take necessary precautions.
He further conveyed Mr Sidi’s appreciation of the public’s cooperation, urging continued support throughout the exercise.
