Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has demanded full accountability over the death of an Australian citizen who was killed while delivering aid in Gaza.

Mr Albanese on Tuesday confirmed reports that Australian citizen Zomi Frankcom was killed on Monday by an airstrike in Gaza, where she was working for the aid organisation World Central Kitchen (WCK).

Speaking at a press conference, Albanese said Frankcom’s death was completely unacceptable and said the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade had requested a meeting with the Israeli ambassador.

He described the incident as beyond any reasonable circumstances.

“This is just completely unacceptable; Australia expects full accountability for the deaths of aid workers.

“This is a tragedy that should never have occurred,’’ he said.

Mr Albanese offered his sincere condolences to Frankcom’s family, friends, and fellow aid workers on Tuesday.
