A roadside bomb on Friday struck a vehicle belonging to the Australian embassy in Iraq without causing casualties, an official of the Iraqi Interior Ministry said.

An improvised explosive device went off near the vehicle in the al-Qadisiyah neighbourhood at the western entrance of the heavily fortified Green Zone in central Baghdad.

The official said the blast hit the vehicle entering the Green Zone, and there was no casualty except for minor damage to the car.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.

The Green Zone houses the main government headquarters and some foreign embassies, including the Australian embassy.

Uncontrolled militias frequently target the U.S. embassy in Baghdad and convoys of foreign diplomatic missions.

Iraqi military bases housing U.S. military advisors have also come under mortar and rocket attacks from time to time.
