Austrian ambassador quits over alleged operation of sexually explicit blog

An Austrian ambassador has left his diplomatic post after being accused of operating a sexually explicit blog.
The foreign ministry confirmed on Wednesday that the diplomat asked to step down from the post for “personal reasons,” a request accepted by Foreign Minister Beate Meinl-Reisinger.
The ministry did not publicly disclose his country of assignment or provide more details about the allegations.
The Austrian investigative outlet Fass ohne Boden reported that the ambassador, whose identity was not disclosed, operated a sadomasochistic blog under a female pseudonym.
The content was described as highly misogynistic, dehumanising, and glorifying violence.
“The official in question was considered discreet, reliable, and internationally experienced,” the outlet wrote, adding that the case raised serious concerns about potential security risks and vulnerability to blackmail.
According to the Foreign Ministry, an internal investigation was launched immediately after the allegations surfaced.
It remains unclear whether the ambassador will face disciplinary consequences, Austria’s APA news agency reported.
He has since been reassigned to a position at the ministry’s headquarters in Vienna.
