Minister of Information Lai Mohammed says bandits who attacked Assistant Inspector General of Police, Audu Madaki, in Bauchi did so score “a psychological point.”

“On the issue of the attack on the AIG in Bauchi, I need further information from the IG as to the circumstances of the attack,” Mohammed said. “But what I know is that bandits would always want to make this kind of spectacular attack just to score a psychological point.”

Mr Mohammed disclosed on Wednesday while addressing State House correspondents, adding that “the government is taking the job of security very seriously.”

Bandits in an ambush attacked Mr Madaki on his way to Abuja from Bauchi between Barde and Jagindi area of Kaduna State on Tuesday, injuring him and killing  his orderly.

Before now, bandits had attacked president Muhammadu Buhari’s advance convoy in Katsina. In another attack in Bwari, Abuja, terrorists attacked Presidential Guards Brigade, killing three elite soldiers.

The Nigerian army, however, said 30 of the terrorists behind the Bwari attack have been neutralised in an operation a few days later.
