The Kogi government is set to recruit 1,050 hunters to beef up security in the state.

This followed the Kogi House Assembly’s approval of the government’s request on Wednesday at plenary to recruit hunters.

The commissioner for local government and chieftaincy affairs, Salami Ozigi-Deedat, had sent a letter to the house to recruit 50 hunters each in the 21 LGA

In the letter, the state government gave reasons for the proposed recruitment, including the shortage of security personnel and the need to curb crime.

The assembly speaker, Umar Aliyu, read the letter sent out during plenary on Wednesday.

Mr Aliyu reminded the house of their previous resolve to recruit hunters, given the state’s security challenges.

According to him, there is a serious manpower shortage in Kogi, and the government’s request was in the right direction.

Consequently, in a voice vote, the legislators unanimously approved recruiting 1,050 hunters.

The house directed that the caretaker chairpersons of the 21 local governments pay the hunters’ salaries.
