Bangladesh PM fled to our country, Indian foreign affairs minister confirms
Resigned Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina arrived in India on Monday evening, Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar confirmed on Tuesday when speaking in parliament’s upper house, Rajya Sabha.
This was the first time when the Indian government confirmed Ms Hasina’s presence in the country after she fled Bangladesh on Monday following large-scale violence.
The minister told federal lawmakers that Ms Hasina had sought India’s approval to come to India, but at short notice, she requested approval to come to India for the moment.
“We simultaneously received a request for flight clearance from the Bangladesh authorities. She arrived yesterday evening in Delhi,” Mr Jaishankar said.
