Benue assembly to report contractor to EFCC for abandoning complex renovation

The speaker of the Benue Assembly, Alfred Emberga, has vowed to report Gerawa Global Engineering Nigeria Limited to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for allegedly abandoning renovation work on the assembly complex.
Mr Emberga expressed his displeasure on Thursday in Makurdi during an inspection visit to assess the level of work done by the contractor. To his surprise, he found the entire assembly complex locked.
According to the speaker, the contractor had earlier assured the House that the project would be completed in June but failed to meet the deadline.
“He also assured us that he will complete the renovation and hand over the edifice to us in September. This promise too, he did not keep. He kept on reneging on his promises.
“If the company fails to deliver the project by the end of October, the state government will revoke the contract and report the firm to the EFCC.
“This is a fraudulent act. The governor paid him 100 per cent of the contract sum. The company has no reason to fail to deliver the job timely,” he added.
Mr Emberga alleged that the contractor only mobilised a few artisans to the site during previous inspection visits to create the impression that work was ongoing.
He explained that during the latest visit, the company was caught unprepared, which revealed the true state of abandonment of the project.
The speaker also described the quality of work already done as substandard, noting that some of the wall cracks were already pulling off.
