A Makurdi Chief Magistrates’ Court on Friday heard that a farmer, Teryila Akperakya, 40, abducted his own daughter.

Mr Akperakya, who lives at Ukan Mbaded village in Ushongo Local Government Area of Benue was charged with Criminal Breach of Trust and Abduction.

Police prosecutor Jonah Uletu told the court presided over by Magistrate Vincent Kor that the matter was reported by a complainant, Rachel Ukpo, on June 10.

Ms Ukpo told the police that Mr Akperakya visited her on June 5 and she gave him N395,000.00 to buy garri for her.

The prosecutor added that after Mr Akperakya collected the money, he abducted his 15-year old daughter, who was living with the complainant.

Ms Jonah added that Mr Akperakya later turned around and started asking for a N2 million ransom from the complainant to release the girl.

The offence, she said, contravened the provisions of Section 313 of the Penal Code Laws of Benue, 2004 and 3(2) of the Abduction, Hostage Taking, Kidnapping, Secret Cult and Similar Activities Prohibition Laws of Benue, 2017.

The judge, who did not take the plea of  Mr Akperakya for want of jurisdiction, ordered that he be remanded in a correctional center.

Mr Kor adjourned the matter until August 1 for further mention.
