U.S. President Joe Biden is set to host the leaders of Japan and the Philippines on April 11, the White House said.

Mr Biden would host Philippines President Ferdinand Marcos Jr and Japan’s Prime Minister, Fumio Kishida for the first trilateral U.S. -Japan-Philippines leaders’ summit, White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre said in a statement.

The leaders were set to “reaffirm the ironclad alliances” between the three countries, “discuss trilateral cooperation,” and “further peace and security in the Indo-Pacific and around the world,” Ms Jean-Pierre said.

In addition to the trilateral talks, Mr Biden was set to host Mr Marcos for a meeting “to review the historic momentum in bilateral relations.

“They will discuss efforts to expand cooperation on economic security, clean energy, people-to-people ties, human rights and democracy.”
