A bill to establish Kogi College of Agriculture, Ochaja-Egume, on Thursday scaled second reading at the state House of Assembly.

This followed the presentation of the general principles of the bill by the sponsor, Enema Paul (APC-Dekina/Okura), at the plenary in Lokoja.

Speaking, Mr Paul said the college would not only build the intellectual capacities of youths but would also boost agriculture and food production.

He said the college would provide openings for students looking for admission to study at the Ordinary and Higher National Diploma levels.

“In addition, the college will offer professional courses that will qualify candidates as Agricultural Extension Workers, conduct researches in Science and Engineering Technology,’’ he said.

The legislator said the college would organise courses for in-service instructors and provide training and technical skills for self-reliance.

He assured that the college would make a positive impact on the development of the state.

The speaker, Umar Yusuf, thereafter referred the bill to the House Committees on Education, Judiciary and Agriculture for further legislative actions.
