Aishatu Binani, a senator representing Adamawa Central senatorial district, has emerged as the winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election in Adamawa, becoming the first woman to win the governorship ticket of a major political party.

Ms Binani clinched the ticket in a keenly contested election defeating Nuhu Ribadu, former Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)’s chairman, ex-Governor Jibrilla Bindo, a House of Representatives member, Abdulrazak Namdas, Wafari Theman and Umar Mustapha.

Ms Binani got 430 votes to defeat her nearest challenger, Mr Ribadu, who got 288 votes, according to the chairman of the APC’s electoral committee, Gambo Lawan.

Emerging a distant third at the primary election, former governor, Mr Bindo managed to get 103 votes.

Her victory came in the wake of allegations that she bought the votes of party delegates with N1 million each and other empowerment items.

The election which started at about 11:30 p.m. on Thursday was concluded on Friday morning.
