The Yobe State police command has called on residents to remain calm and vigilant following the Monday bomb explosions in Maiduguri.

The command commiserated with the government and people of Borno State and urged citizens to be security-conscious, especially in crowded areas, public places, and their communities.

The state Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ado, gave the charge after a State Security Council meeting on Tuesday in Damaturu.

Mr Ado directed area commanders, divisional police officers, tactical units, and intelligence departments to ensure robust security coverage at worship centres, recreational facilities, public parks, and other strategic locations before, during, and after the Sallah celebrations.

The command encouraged the public to provide timely information on suspicious persons, objects, vehicles, or motorcycles to the nearest police station and warned motorists against reckless driving during the festive period.

The police also cautioned youths against carrying dangerous objects during celebration, stating that anyone found culpable would be dealt with decisively in accordance with the law.

The command further advised communities to strengthen their neighbourhood watch and other proactive security measures.

“Security remains a collective responsibility. If you see something, say something,” the police stated.
