Buhari regime achieved justice sector reforms: Malami

Attorney General Abubakar Malami, SAN, says the Buhari regime has recorded modest gains in the area of justice reforms through legislations and judicial decisions.

Mr Malami disclosed this at the two-day body of Attorneys General conference on Tuesday, in Abuja.

“The achievements recorded in the Justice sector are worth relishing, the reforms have expounded the legal jurisprudence.

“We have been able to guide our principals and shape public governance towards advancing the course of justice, rule of law and deepening our democratic practices.

“Over time salient issues which include payment of pension for judicial officers, sharing of Stamp Duties collections, Value Added Tax, NFIU Guidelines, regulation of the mining and gaming industry, policing and security have been addressed and will continue to get government attention.

“Other areas are mutual evaluation and collaboration in combating and prosecution of terrorism and other violent crimes”.

He commended the AGs from the 36 states of the Federation for their dedication in public servants for effective service delivery.

“With all sense of responsibility, we strived within human possible limits to discharge our duties meritoriously.

”I therefore, urge you to continue to do your best in the position of leadership that providence bestowed on us as Attorneys-General”.

The President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Yakubu Maikyau, SAN, described the legal body as the bedrock of the nation’s existence.

He urged the stakeholders to continue to extend their dexterity and sagacity for a better judiciary sector.
