Buhari reshuffles cabinet, swears in new ministers
President Muhammadu Buhari has announced a minor cabinet reshuffle as he swears in seven new ministers in the State House, Abuja, on Wednesday.
The ministers include Goodluck Opiah (Imo), Umar El-Yakub (Kano) and Ademola Adegoroye (Ondo), Henry Ikoh (Abia) Umana Okon Umana (Akwa Ibom), Ekumankama Nkama (Ebonyi) and Odum Odi (Rivers).
While announcing the reshuffle shortly before the commencement of the meeting of the council, Mr Buhari approved junior health minister Adeleke Mamora as the new minister of science and technology; junior works minister Mua’azu Sambo was moved to the transport ministry as substantive minister.
Mr Umanna was appointed the Niger Delta Affairs minister while junior environment minister Sharon Ikeazor became the Niger Delta Affairs minister of state.
Gbemisola Saraki was moved to the Ministry of Mines and Steel as minister of state while El-Yakub is now works minister.
Mr Buhari also approved Goodluck Apiah as junior education minister; Mr Nkama as health minister; Ikoh Ikechekwu as junior minister of science and technology; Odi as environment minister and Mr Adegoroye named junior transport minister.
Before the swearing-in, a minute’s silence was observed in honour of the late OPEC secretary-general Mohammed Barkindo.
He was 63.
