The Lagos State Building Control Agency general manager, Gbolahan Oki, has condemned increasing attacks on LASBCA officials while carrying out official duties.

A statement on Thursday by LASBCA spokesman Olaoye Olusegun said the general manager registered his displeasure at the agency’s head office in Ikeja GRA.

The statement said Mr Oki was reacting to recent attacks on LASBCA officials with dangerous weapons and charms while on a routine monitoring exercise along Musical Village, Awolowo Road in Ikorodu.

It said the assailants had been handed over to security operatives for prosecution.

The general manager said no intimidation or harassment would make the agency go back on its mandate of ensuring safe and secure buildings.

“These assailants not only obstruct our staff but also hold them hostage for hours. These acts of hooliganism will not deter us from carrying out our duties,” Mr Oki said.

According to the statement, the general manager identified challenges faced daily by LASBCA staff and how they surmounted them.

“Thankfully, we managed to overcome these attacks without any casualties. Our staff’s resilience and quick responses have played a crucial role in overpowering the assailants and preventing more severe consequences.

“These are the kinds of challenges we face daily in our bid to ensure that buildings in the state are safe and fit for habilitation,” he said.

Mr Oki, according to the statement, urged the public to understand and support the agency in its mission to curb the menace of building collapse across Lagos.

He reiterated the agency’s dedication to maintaining and enforcing building standards in Lagos, even in adversity.

The general manager advised Lagos residents to collaborate with the agency to ensure the safety and integrity of structures that would foster a secure environment.
