Bulgarian President Rumen Radev has tasked the current caretaker Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev with forming a new caretaker government.

Mr Glavchev has been serving as the caretaker prime minister since April 9.

Following the snap parliamentary elections on June 9, the Balkan country failed to elect a regular cabinet.

According to the Bulgarian constitution, a new caretaker government should be in place compulsorily before the next parliamentary elections take place.

Mr Glavchev was not Mr Radev’s first choice to lead the next caretaker government, so the president first nominated Goritsa Grancharova-Kozhareva, who previously served as president of the Bulgarian National Audit Office.

He served as the new caretaker prime minister on August 9.

However, this Monday, Mr Grancharova-Kozhareva’s proposal of the caretaker government line-up was refused by the president, who later withdrew her nomination.

According to a statement issued on Thursday by the president’s office, Radev has required Glavchev to carefully consider changes in a new Council of Ministers.

He is expected to receive the line-up of the new caretaker government by Aug. 26.

If Mr Glavchev can successfully form a caretaker government, the date of early parliamentary elections would be on October 27, Radev said.
