Nigerian singer Burna Boy has been nominated for BET’s ‘hip-hop artist of the year’ awards.

Burna Boy will be up against hip-hop heavyweights 21 Savage, Cardi B, Drake, Glorilla, J. Cole and Kendrick Lamar.

Organisers of the Black Entertainment Awards announced nominees in all 17 categories of the prestigious award on Thursday.

The Grammy award-winning singer has seven nominations, including ‘song of the year’, ‘best hip-hop video’, ‘best collaboration’, ‘best live performer’, ‘lyricist of the year’, and ‘hustler of the year’.

21 Savage and Cardi B are frontrunners in this year’s BET awards, with 12 nominations each, followed closely by Drake with nine nominations.

Burna Boy’s seven nominations put him in the league of prominent artists like J. Cole, who garnered six nominations, and Coi Leray, GloRilla, and Jay-Z, each receiving five nominations.

The 2023 BET Hip Hop Awards will take place on October 10.

Burna Boy enjoyed success at the 16th edition of the Headies.

His hit single, ‘Last Last’, won ‘Afrobeats single of the year’ and ‘song of the year’ awards.
