Butcher, 40, arraigned over alleged N2.3 million fraud in Ibadan

A butcher, Basiru Gboyega, 40, who allegedly defrauded a cattle dealer of N2.3million, appeared before an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Thursday.
Basiru was arraigned on a two-count charge of stealing to which he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Corporal Akeem Akinloye, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Dec. 22, 2024, at Akinyele Kara Market, Ibadan.
Mr Akinloye said that the defendant collected five cows valued at N2, 380, 000 from a cattle dealer, one Jamare Tijani.
According to him, Basiru took the cows from Tijani on the pretext of selling it and returning the proceeds to him but failed to do.
Mr Akinloye said that the offences contravened Section 419 and 390 (9) of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State 2000.
The Chief Magistrate, Olabisi Ogunkanmi, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N750, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
Ms Ogunkanmi said one of the sureties must be blood relation to the defendant.
She, thereafter, adjourned the matter until October 29, for hearing.
