CAC’s intervention ends two-decade KPMG dispute

The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has resolved a dispute spanning over 20 years between KPMG Professional Services and KPMG Nigeria.
The CAC said this in a statement signed by its management on Thursday in Abuja.
The disagreement had resulted in prolonged litigation and strained relations between the parties.
The parties are recognised in practice as KPMG Audit, KPMG Tax Consultants, and KPMG Consulting.
The statement said the matter was pending before the Supreme Court of Nigeria under Appeal No: SC/CV/776/2025.
It stated that a related case was also before the Federal High Court under Suit No. FHC/L/CS/2213/2025.
The commission said the resolution followed statutory intervention by its registrar-general/CEO, Hussaini Magaji.
The CAC said the intervention was carried out pursuant to powers granted under Section 8 of the Companies and Allied Matters Act, 2020.
“Following engagements convened by the commission, both parties reached a mutually acceptable settlement.
“They also agreed to withdraw all pending suits and appeals arising from the dispute,” it said.
The CAC reiterated its commitment to a transparent and investor-friendly corporate registry system.
It added that the resolution would strengthen corporate stability and boost investor confidence in Nigeria’s business environment.
