Manchester City crashed out after losing 1-0 to Newcastle United while Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal progressed to the next round of the 2023/2024 Carabao Cup after recording wins in their respective matches.

Both Eddie Howe and Pep Guardiola made huge changes in the starting lineups but it was Newcastle that came out victorious at St James’ Park thanks to Alexander Isak’s second-half goal.

Last year’s finalist, beaten 2-0 by Manchester United, have now booked their spot in the fourth round of the cup.

Meanwhile, Chelsea are also into the fourth round after the Blues pipped Brighton one-nil at Stamford Bridge.

Nicolas Jackson’s goal six minutes after the half-time break secured the important victory for Mauricio Pochettino, who had been under pressure to turn the situation around at Stamford Bridge.

The Senegalese could have scored a brace in the game but his late goal was ruled out for offside. His goal in today’s game also ended the Blues’ goal drought since August 30th.

Arsenal also defeated Brentford by the same scoreline to advance to the next round of the competition thanks to Reiss Nelson’s eighth-minute goal in the Gunners-dominated match at the Gtech Stadium.

In Merseyside, Liverpool came from a goal down to beat Championship side Leicester City 3-1 at the Anfield Stadium.

Super Eagles forward, Kelechi Iheanacho, started the match while his national team compatriot Wilfred Ndidi later came on in the second half as a substitute.

Leicester City took the lead as early as the third minute of the game through Kasey McAteer but Liverpool responded with three second-half goals from Cody Gakpo, Dominik Szoboszlai and Diogo Jota to carry the day.
