Controversial Catholic priest Ejike Mbaka has been removed as head of Adoration Ministry, a parish which he founded.

On Sunday, drama unfolded when the Enugu Catholic Diocese sought to install another priest in place of Mr Mbaka. Members of the parish nearly mobbed the new priest in resistance, per Sahara Reporters.

In June, the Catholic Bishop of the diocese, Callistus Onaga banned Mr Mbaka from partisan comments and politics.

Mr Mbaka however, violated the ban, berating Labour Party’s presidential candidate Peter Obi, a frontline Catholic, as a stingy person who should not be elected. The comments drew public ire, causing the Mr Onaga to suspend Mr Mbaka and shutting down his Adoration ministry.

Last week, however, Mr Mbaka’s Adoration ministry was reopened. But his parish members on Sunday resisted his replacement with another priest.
