The Joint Committee of the National Assembly on land transport has called on Chinese government to help rescue passengers abducted on March 28 by suspected terrorists.

Chairman of the Senate Committee on Land Transportation, Abdulfatai Buhari, who made this call at a visit to Obafemi Awolowo train station in Ibadan, said that it wasn’t out of place to ask Chinese government for help as they were making money from rail projects handled by the China Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC).

“What effort is the Chinese Government putting in place to assist Nigerian government in rescuing these people?” Mr Buhari asked.

“The Chinese government makes money from the many rail projects that are being handled by the China Civil Engineering Construction Company here in Nigeria, so asking them to help us is not out of place. If a Chinese national was among those people abducted, we know that the Chinese Government would have come to rescue him,” he added.

The lawmaker said that Nigerians were more interested in knowing the efforts by the CCECC into rescuing the abducted passengers.

Mr Buhari’s comment comes in the wake of the Nigerian government failure to ensure the safety of lives and properties of Nigerians, including travelling routes.

Bandits in March bombed Abuja-Kaduna bound train, abducting over about 64 passengers.
