Cleaner arraigned for causing bodily harm to friend

The Police on Thursday arraigned a 34-year-old cleaner, Katsala Dauda, before a Chief Magistrates’ Court, Wuse, Abuja, for allegedly causing grievous hurt on his friend, Favour Adamu.

The Prosecution Counsel, Chinenye Okafor, told the court that the complainant, Adamu reported the matter at Galadimawa Police Station on September 9.

Ms Okafor alleged that the complainant and a friend went to the defendant’s house to collect his Ipad and while they were knocking at the gate, the defendant angrily picked a bottle and injured his head, ear and back.

She added that the complainant was rushed to Royal Maclyn Specialist Hospital for treatment and spent N76,500.

She said that the offence contravened the provisions of sections 245 of the Penal Code.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.

The Magistrate, Umar Dodo, granted the defendant N150,000 bail with one reliable surety in like sum, who must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

Ms Dodo added that the surety must be an employee of a public organisation and produce a letter of appointment, identity card and swear to an affidavit of means of livelihood.

He adjourned the matter until November 3 for hearing.
