The Civil Liberties Organisation (CLO) has urged Christians to imitate and exhibit the sacrificial life of Jesus Christ through love, charity, tolerance, humility and humanitarian disposition, as well as love for God and fellow humans.

CLO chair in Anambra, Vincent Ezekwueme, stated this in an interview on Sunday in Enugu.

According to Mr Ezekwueme, as Christ’s birth heralds hope, peace, salvation, consolation and freedom, its celebration should also bring succour and relief to people.

“We should use this period to put smiles on the faces of widows, widowers, the downtrodden, orphans and the less-privileged. Let us use this period to make peace, think, act and show love for one another in order to make the celebration meaningful and memorable.

“May our Lord be born in our hearts and minds so that we will realise that Christmas is spiritual and not for materialism and ostentatious display of wealth,” said Mr Ezekwueme.

The CLO boss noted that the Christmas celebration should be characterised by empathy, self-sacrifice, sharing and giving, reconciliation and mutual sharing of the burdens of life.

“Let us celebrate Christmas in Christ, for Christ and with Christ,” Mr Ezekwueme added.
