Colombian president, Gustavo Petro, has announced the country will expel several Argentine diplomats after his Argentine counterpart, Javier Milei, called him a ‘’murdering terrorist’’.

Mr Milei, who was elected as the new president of Argentina last December, made the remark in some clips of a CNN interview which is expected to be released on Sunday.

He also called Mexican president Andrés Manuel López Obrador “ignorant” in one of those clips from the interview.

Mr Milei, who is infamous for his use of uncolourful words, labelled Mr Petro a ‘’murdering terrorist’’ in one of his latest episodes, stating that Colombia could deteriorate to the level of Venezuela and Cuba under Mr Petro’s leadership.

“In Venezuela, there’s carnage, it’s truly unprecedented, same as on that prison island, Cuba,” he told CNN’s Andrés Oppenheimer.

He added: “And there are others who are going down that road, such as Colombia with Mr Petro.”

“Well, you can’t expect much from someone who was a murdering terrorist, right?” he queried about the competency of Mr Petro, who was a former rebel fighter for the now disbanded M-19 guerrilla group in the 1980s.

Obviously displeased with the remarks, Colombia’s foreign ministry said Mr Milei remarks offended Mr Petro’s dignity and the South American country will respond by expelling numbers of Argentine diplomats – no specific figure was mentioned.
