The Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State on Monday remanded a 39-year-old man, Prosper Ebhoze, in a correctional centre for allegedly defiling an 11-year-old girl.

Mr Ebhoze, who resides at No 14, Oke-Owo, off Oka-Omo Street. Alapere- Ketu, Lagos, is charged with defilement.

The chief magistrate, M.O Tanimola, who did not take Mr Ebhoze’s plea, adjourned the case until March 13 for legal advice from the office of the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions.

Earlier, the prosecuting counsel, Insp Donjour Perezi, told the court that Mr Ebhoze committed the offence at noon on Oja-Omo Street. Alapere, Ketu, Lagos.

Mr Perezi said the girl was sent home from school to get some items.

He said the minor went to her father’s shop to inform her father; unfortunately, she didn’t find him in his workshop, but she saw the defendant, who is her father’s apprentice.

“He took her to a corner, covered her mouth and defiled her. He also threatened to kill,” Mr Perezi said.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State.
