The Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court, on Tuesday, ordered the remand of a 35-year-old man, Ajibade Adeleye, in the correctional centre in Ado-Ekiti for allegedly defiling a 10-year-old girl.

The defendant is facing a rape trial.

The police prosecutor, Olasunkanmi Bamikole, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on March 13 in Omuo-Ekiti.

He alleged that the defendant defiled a 10-year-old girl.

Mr Bamikole said the victim went to defecate on a dumping site, where the defendant allegedly defiled her.

He said the offence contravened Section 31 of the Child Rights Laws of Ekiti, 2012.

The prosecutor urged the court to remand the defendant in prison custody, pending legal advice from the office of the director of public prosecution (DPP).

The defendant’s plea was, however, not taken.

The chief magistrate, Saka Afunso, ordered the defendant remanded in prison custody pending legal advice.

He adjourned the case until April 29 for mention.
