An Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ibadan on Tuesday ordered that 30-year-old Muritala Muhammad be remanded in Abolongo Correctional facility for the alleged murder of a farmer.

The police charged Mr Muritala, whose address was not given with murder, and the Senior Magistrate, Patricia Adetuyibi, did not take the plea of Mr Muritala for want of jurisdiction.

Mrs Adetuyibi directed the police to return the case file to the Oyo State Ministry of Justice for legal advice, and adjourned the matter until July 4, for mention.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Salewa Hammed, told the court that Mr Muritala had on May 1, at about 5:00 p.m. in Agbanda village, Ikoyi–Ile in Ogbomoso area of Oyo, allegedly caused the death of Jacob Adeoye, 65.

Mr Hammed alleged that Mr Muritala poured substances suspected to be acid all over the body of the victim on the farm after committing the murder.

He said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 316, which was punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State 2000.
