Court remands septuagenarian for allegedly raping teenager

The prosecutor said the victim reported the matter to the police.

A Family Court sitting in Iyaganku, Ibadan, Oyo State, on Thursday remanded a 76-year-old man, Akeem Muritala, in a correction centre for allegedly raping a 17-year-old girl.

The Chief Magistrate, Olabisi Ogunkanmi, ordered that the case file should be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.

Mrs Ogunkanmi adjourned the case until October 23 for mention.

Mr Muritala is charged of rape.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Inspector Gbemisola Adedeji, told the court that Mr Muritala committed the offence in July in Isale-Afa area of Ibadan.

She said that the girl reported the incident to the police.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 34 of the  Child Rights Law 2006.
