An Ogun State High Court sitting in Abeokuta has sentenced one Azeez Akinpelu to death by hanging for killing a minor, one Rokibat Odeyale.

The 23-year-old suspect, who resides in the Owode area in Ogun State, was convicted on a six-count charge of conspiracy, possession of firearms, manslaughter, attempted murder, and murder.

The convict was said to have committed the murder at about 06:00 pm on March 27, 2021, at Atala People Igbeyin, Owode Egba area of the state.

He was alleged to have conspired with his friends to kill the victim by shooting her on the head with a local pistol.

The crime reportedly took place while people of Igbeyin were celebrating Orile Igbeyin Day and heard a gunshot from the crowd.

According to the prosecutor, the suspect fired the gunshot directly to where some children were dancing and entertaining guests.

In her judgement on Monday, Justice O.O Stanley held that the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt that Mr Akinpelu was guilty as charged.

The judge therefore handed Mr Akinpelu multiple sentences for the offences, including death by hanging.
