Portuguese forward Cristiano Ronaldo was in tears on Friday after his Al Nassr team were beaten in penalty shootout by their arch-rivals Al Hilal in their final of the Saudi King Cup of Champions.

Former Newcastle United striker Aleksandar Mitrović opened the scoring for Al Hilal in the seventh minute of the game before Ayman Yahya equalised for Al Nassr in the closing minutes, sending the match into extra time.

Meanwhile, none of the two teams finished the regular time with their full squad as David Ospina was sent off for Al Nassr in the 56th minute after catching the ball outside his penalty area.

In the 87th minute, Ali Albulayhi was sent off for Al Hilal after headbutting an Al Nassr player before Kalidou Koulibaly became the second Al Hilal player to be sent off in the game after picking up a second yellow card.

After there was nothing to separate the two teams following the 30 minutes extra time, the game went into penalty shootout with Al Hilal winning 5-4 to complete a season’s double having already won the Saudi Pro League title.

Following the final whistle, Ronaldo was reduced to tears and had to be consoled by Al Nassr officials. He will have to wait for another season to win his first official trophy with Al Nassr.
