Cyprus swelters as heatwave pushes temperatures to 45 degrees

Cyprus is enduring a severe heatwave, with inland temperatures expected to reach up to 45 degrees Celsius on Thursday.
On Wednesday, the weather station in the village of Lefkara, located about 20 kilometres from the coast, recorded an even higher reading of 46.1 degrees, state broadcaster RIK reported.
The Cyprus Meteorological Department has issued an extreme high-temperature warning for both inland areas and higher mountain regions.
Conditions are slightly more tolerable along the coast thanks to sea breezes, where highs are expected to be around 38 degrees.
Temperatures are forecast to gradually ease from Friday, returning to seasonal averages of around 36 degrees by Sunday.
