The Delta House of Assembly rerun holding in Ethiope West and Burutu North constituencies on Saturday recorded low voter turnout.

A monitor of the exercise in Oghara in Ethiope West Constituency showed that at 10:04 a.m. only few voters were seen going through the accreditation process and also casting their votes.

At Ward 7, unit 2, accreditation and voting started at 10:04 a.m. with just a few voters being attended to.

The Presiding Officer, Judith Agbude, said that though accreditation started at about 9 a.m., the turnout was low.

“We have only accredited 35 voters, though we still expect more,” she said.

Voting also began in units 3, 4, 5 and 6 with low turnout of voters.

Meanwhile, some of the electorate during an interview commended INEC for early arrival of electoral materials as well as the functionality of the BVAS.

One of them, James Kparobor, said, “It is stressful for me to come out today again to vote, but I just have to come out to cast my vote.”

Also, Agnes Ovo said, ‘‘I came at 9.30 a.m. and I have already cast my vote. The BVAS functions very well.”

Also, a member representing Ethiope Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu, commended the electorate for ensuring peace in the area.

“Though the turnout is low, the election is peaceful,” she said.

Meanwhile, the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Etekamba Umoren, who visited some polling units in Oghara commended the voters for their level of calmness during the election.

He urged them to continue to sustain the peace in the area.
