The Delta government has assured that the multibillion-naira Ogheye Floating Market will be inaugurated in November.

Commissioner for Works (Highways), Noel Omodon, disclosed this while briefing journalists on some of the decisions reached at the State Executive Council meeting, presided by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa on Friday in Asaba.

He said that the government has approved for the contractor to complete the water treatment plant at the Ogheye market, a riverine community in Warri North Local Government Area of the state, to enable its inauguration come November.

Given a rundown of other projects also approved by the council, Mr Omodon said, the government also approved the repudiation of the contract for Ayokoromo Bridge, Burutu LGA, to ensure speedy completion of the project before the end of the administration.

He said that the government had approved the transmission of the 2023 budget to the State House of Assembly for its consideration and approval.

The council also approved upward reviews of roads, bridges and housing projects to reflect realities of the moment and enable contractors to complete the projects in recorded time.

On sports, the commissioner said that the government was committed to hosting the National Sports Festival in November, adding that approvals were given for the contractors to put finishing touches on the needed facilities.

He said that approvals were given for the completion of the School of Medical Sciences at the University of Delta, Agbor, to enable accreditation for the programmes.

On the ravaging flood across the state, Mr Omodon revealed that the government has set up camps at strategic places to accommodate those impacted by the flood.

He said the state has approved funds and set up different committees and they are all deployed to the camps which are being opened today (Friday).

“We are on top of the situation and we have moved and encouraging people to come to the camps for the period. We are setting up schools, engaging teachers, health centres, and accommodation for the people. It is a deep programme.”

Mr Omodon was in company of the Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads), Solomon Golley and Commissioner for Girl Child Empowerment, Nkechi Chukwurah.
