The wife of the president, Oluremi Tinubu, says some initiatives under the renewed hope agenda of her husband, Bola Tinubu, are already yielding fruits and will soon reach all communities nationwide.

The first Lady, who stated this at the inauguration of the Women Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria (WOWICAN) in Abuja, said the initiatives would bring succour to all Nigerians, especially women.

Represented by Adedayo Benjamins-Laniyi, the mandate secretary for women’s affairs in the Federal Capital Territory, Mrs Tinubu said, “The economic situation of the country is already improving.’’

“The renewed hope agenda of President Bola Tinubu right now is offloading a number of initiatives bringing succour and providing humanitarian services to the elderly, women, communities and the girl-child,” she added.

Mrs Tinubu’s claims come as citizens have continued to lament the rising costs of living since her husband assumed office in May 2023. Recently, Nigerians protested skyrocketing food prices in Ibadan, Oyo State capital, chanting “Tinubu ole.” Similar protests had held in Osun, Niger, Kano and Lagos.

Although soaring prices of food predated Mr Tinubu’s government, his sudden fuel subsidy removal and floating of the naira have seen petrol prices jump from N145 to N630, shooting food prices up astronomically as the naira continues its freefall against the dollar, trading for over N1,600 against a dollar.

However, the first lady urged women to always live as shining examples and remain united to advance the course of women.

She said women must see themselves as healers and play their role in healing the land.

“It is important for women to work together, and we must see ourselves playing the role of healing our nation.

“Do not be distracted by the current challenges but focus on the assignment of promoting equity, equal rights and righteousness,” she said.

The national chairperson of WOWICAN, Elizabeth Akinadewo, said her administration would focus on women’s empowerment.

“We will give succour to those who are oppressed, help them out of their misery, give voice to the voiceless and empower the women,” she said.
