Diphtheria: Bauchi confirms two deaths

He said three cases were positive out of fifty-eight samples of suspected diphtheria obtained, while two deaths were recorded.

The Bauchi State government has confirmed the outbreak of diphtheria in three local government areas. 

Rilwanu Muhammad, the executive chairman of Bauchi State Primary Health Care Agency, confirmed the outbreak in an interaction with journalists in Bauchi.

He said three cases were positive out of fifty-eight samples of suspected diphtheria obtained, while two deaths were recorded.

Also, he said five of 48 suspected cases of yellow fever were confirmed. 

Meanwhile, schools in the Jama’are Local Government area have been closed to forestall the spread of the diseases.
