A politician, Professor Usman Muhammad, has urged the electorates not to be discouraged by the alleged self-seeking attitude of delegates during political parties primaries.

Mr Muhammad said that the best way to reply the delegates was for the electorates to vote for credible people during the 2023 general elections.

He said this in an interview on Thursday in Kaduna.

“The electorates should look out for people that understand their needs and challenges, with a compassionate heart and interest in the wellbeing and development of the masses.

“The electorate should not be discouraged; they should go on the day of election and elect people that they feel are far better within them,’’ he said.

He, however, called for thorough investigation of allegations of use of money to compromise the integrity of the primaries.

Mr Muhammad who lost the senatorial primaries to represent Kaduna Central on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), also called for further reform of the Electoral Act.

He said that the reform was necessary to extract commitment of political parties to ensure that Nigerians get the best out of the system.

“The delegates’ election has come and gone with a lot of criticism and shocking revelations, where we have less qualified people coming up to occupy some positions due to the compromise of the system.

“All these revelations need to be investigated; all hands must be on deck in order to come out with sound ideals and get the best out of the system,’’ he added.
