On Tuesday, the Jos Area Court sentenced Ibrahim Aliyu and Ibrahim Umar to six months’ imprisonment each for stealing 180 litres of diesel and N250,000.

The judge, Shawomi Bokkos, sentenced Messrs Aliyu and Umar after they pleaded guilty to the offence and begged the court for leniency.

The judge also gave the convicts an option of a N30,000 fine each and to pay a compensation of N50,000 each or serve six months in default.

Earlier, the police prosecutor, Labaran Ahmed, told the court that the case was reported at the Laranto Police Station, Jos, on January 10 by Aminu Mohammed.

Mr Ahmed said the truck drivers conspired and stole 180 litres of diesel from Mr Mohammed, the complainant’s trucks, valued at N190,800 and the cash sum of N250,000.

The prosecutor further told the court that during the police investigation, the accused persons confessed to committing the offence.

The offence, he said, contravened the Plateau State Penal Code law of Northern Nigeria.
