At least 11,000 people have been confirmed dead and millions more injured after a powerful 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck Turkey and Syria in the wee hours of Monday.

Although rescue teams have saved over 8,000 persons in Turkey alone, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said his nation’s death toll had risen to 8,574.

Rescue missions have been hampered by trucks and fuel shortages as there are no sufficient vehicles to transport international aid workers to the quake-stricken region.

The terrible quake had killed 2,612 persons in Syria, the country’s health ministry and the White Helmets relief group revealed.

Speaking on Lebanon’s Al Mayadeen TV on Tuesday, Faisal Mekdad, Syria’s foreign minister, said the nation was willing to accept aid and relief items from international communities and grant them access to the victims.
