Sunshine Stars Football Club of Akure, on Monday in Akure, unveiled Edith Agoye as the club’s new coach ahead of the 2023/2004  Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season.

Agoye was the immediate past coach of Shooting Stars FC of Ibadan.

The Commissioner for Youth and Sport Development in the state, Bamidele Ologun, said the unveiling was to send signals to the outside world that the club was ready for the league.

Ologun said the target of the team was to finish among the top three clubs in the league.

The commissioner said the appointment of the coach came with huge responsibility and was sure the coach was up to the task.

“Today marks the beginning of a new chapter in the history of the club with the unveiling of  Agoye as the new Head Coach of the club,” he said.

He said that Agoye was picked among the shortlisted coaches because of his track records.

“I want to reiterate that the unity of purpose of all stakeholders is required so as to rally round Agoye and his coaching crew in actualising the common dream for the club.

“We have our set goals and objectives, which without mincing words, is to be among the top three in the next football season.

“It is on the strength of this that today’s event became significant not just because of the unveiling and presentation of the coach to stakeholders but also to demonstrate our readiness to rally round the new coaching crew,” he said.

In a remark, Agoye said his appointment as the coach of the club was the biggest day in his football career.

The coach promised to surmount all obstacles and build on what he met on ground to achieve results.

The Ondo State Football Association Chairman, Dele Ajayi, urged the new coach to qualify the club for continental football.

“We are appealing to all stakeholders to ensure that good results are achieved.

“Welfare of the players and the staff must be looked into and I want the commissioner to inform the governor to put our pitch in good condition,” he said.
