Udoh Oberaifo, the African Action Congress candidate for the September 21 governorship election in Edo, has promised to create over 300,000 jobs if elected governor and pay N150,000 as minimum wage.

Mr Oberaifo said this in an interview on Friday in Benin.

“Our Digital Edo programme will create digital hubs across Edo, creating 300,000 local jobs and reduce the mass exodus of youths abroad. We are also going to embark on a massive industrial revolution plan that would revitalise industries, expand manufacturing, and improve technology in the state,” he said.

Mr Oberaifo, who promised to pay civil servants a N150,000 minimum wage in the state, said N70,000 could not buy a bag of rice and would not sustain the worker.

The governorship hopeful also promised to implement effective fiscal and monetary policies to revamp the economy and increase the state’s internally generated revenue to pay the minimum wage.

“Economic empowerment and massive MSME growth are also crucial. Green Edo, climate emergency, and Eco-social justice will build sustainable communities.

“Good agriculture and food production policy will generate billions and create jobs in the state,” he stated.

The governorship candidate, however, faulted Governor Godwin Obaseki’s ‘operation feed the hungry’ through churches and mosques programme because it underscored a holistic poverty reduction approach.

Mr Oberaifo called on Edo youths to rally support for the AAC party to fix Edo and Nigeria.
