The Chief Judge of Edo State, Justice Daniel Okungbowa, has constituted the appellate team to handle issues arising from the Local Government Election Petitions Tribunal.

According to the Registrar, Benson Osazuwa, the three-man committee has Justice Emmanuel Ahamioje as chairman, while Justice Nekpen Asemota and Justice Nogi Imoukhuede will serve as members.

The tribunal had received 18 petitions from aggrieved Labour party candidates who participated in the September 2 2023 local government polls.

Two tribunals headed by Justices Terry Momodu and Rachel Ogbevoen, after hearing the petitions, dismissed all and upheld the victories of the Peoples Democratic People’s candidates.

As the judgments noted, the LP and its candidates could not prove their cases beyond reasonable doubt and had no strong ground to overturn the results declared by the Edo Independent Electoral Commission.

The aggrieved petitioners alleged that there were no elections in the 18 LGAs. They, therefore, posited that results shouldn’t have been declared. (NAN)
