Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), in the early hours of Saturday, invaded two clubhouses in Akure, Ondo state, injuring and randomly arresting customers.

An X user with the handle @YemieFash said the EFCC operatives sprayed tear gas, seized phones belonging to female customers while also destroying CCTV cameras, and stole other properties.

His post read, “The @officialEFCC conducted a raid on two clubs in Akure overnight. They carried out physical assaults on almost everyone in the club, used tear gas, made random arrests, confiscated the phones of all the females present, damaged the CCTV cameras, and took away the engine. Some people were being rushed to the hospital. This is totally unacceptable!!!”

Narrating further to Peoples Gazette, @YemieFash said, “Last night, people were in the club and all of a sudden, we saw masked men with guns enter into the club, started beating everybody they saw, asking people to lie down.

“They got into the main hotel and tear-gassed. A hotel accommodating over 300 people tear gassed them, beat a lot of them, they went to the CCTV, damaged it and went with the box. They asked all the girls in the place to submit their phones. They collected the phones and took them away. They arrested over 100 people and took them away with some of their cars.”

He said the names of the invaded hotels are Signature Lounge and Charles Royal Hotel.

The Gazette contacted Dele Oyewale, the agency’s head of media and publicity, but he hadn’t responded to his messages as of filing this report.
