Former Nigerian international Kanu Nwankwo has urged Nigerians to pray and support the Super Eagles as they trade tackles with the Egyptians on Tuesday in the ongoing African Cup of Nation’s.

“My country people, you know what it is: African Nations Cup. Nigeria vs Egypt. Please please let’s pray, let’s support them. We have only one team, the Super Eagles,” Kanu said.

Kanu, who made this call in a video published Tuesday on his Facebook page, charged the Super Eagles to stay composed while they play Egypt.

“Let’s go and do what we know how to do. Common boys, this is the first game, calm down. Do what you know how to do and show them the spirit of Nigeria,” Kanu said.

The Super Eagles will play their first game in AFCON against Mo Salah-led Egypt late January 11, without the duo of Napoli striker Victor Osimhen and Odion Ighalo.

Osimhen was dropped from the squad after he tested positive for COVID-19 few days to the competition, while Ighalo’s club refused to release him for the competition.

Nigeria is in Group D with Egypt, Guinea-Bissau and Sudan.
